Changes in Big Health Insurance for 2013 College Grads

With all the fuss about the new policy, open enrollment period, the subsidies given by government and the necessity to have a health cover has created new choices and issues at the same time for the new college grads.

Some of the choices they make are; Mom & Dad’s plan, individually purchased coverage, short-term coverage, etc., but there is a whole new lot of options coming on for them.

How will health insurance options of today change for graduates when the last big provisions of the health reform law come into effect from January?

Here’s How!

Mom & Dad’s health insurance plan – A parent health insurance plan is best for you if you are thinking of moving back to your parent’s place, and you are looking for quality coverage or employer-based coverage is not available at the moment. With the help of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) now a person graduating from college can stay insured under his parent’s health insurance plan till the age of 26. This is a very nice option for some of the graduates. But there are negative sides of this, like increased premium for the parents, or if you are not in the state then it is not possible to get the assistance of network doctor at the time of requirement. So these are the things that can hamper the benefits of your coverage.

In 2014: You will be treated as a holder of a health plan with your parents till the time you turn 26, but after that you are supposed to purchase a health cover of your own, in order to fit in the requirements of ACA.

Traditional individual health insurance plan -if you are looking for quality coverage and do not have an option of employer-based coverage at the moment, or you have an ambition of being financially independent, then you should go for a traditional major health insurance plan for yourself. A person with good health has many good and affordable options to choose from. You can get the best for you by getting the best information about your plan from an online marketplace. It is to be kept in mind that this is possible to decline coverage based on pre-existing conditions until 2014

In 2014: by the start of 2014, most of the people who are not covered under employer-based insurance will have to purchase these individual insurance plans. It will be a good thing if you will purchase one now. There is a chance of you getting the benefit of subsidies in 2014.

High-deductible health insurance plan – if you are not covered under any employer-based health insurance and want quality coverage, but do not have the need of it, as you are in a good health conditions and are not taking any kind of medical drug regularly, then you should go for a high deductible insurance plan. These are the traditional insurance plans with higher deductible. Here the meaning of higher deductibles is lower monthly premiums. Some of the higher deductible plans can be used in the health saving accounts, by which you will be getting some tax advantage and saving a considerable amount of money.

In 2014: At this time also the high-deductible plans and Health Savings Accounts will be available. Apart from these there will be plans available for everyone which are now a days only there for the people below 30 years of age.

Short-term health insurance plan – If all you want is the basic emergency coverage, or your employer-based coverage is not enough for you, then a short term health insurance will be a good option for you. The short term health insurance plans are easy to qualify and quite affordable. But it should be kept in mind that the short term plans do not cover the pre-existing conditions, preventive care or prescription drugs. You can easily purchase a short term health insurance plan.

In 2014: the short term health insurance will not be complying with the requirements of the health reform law in 2014. So you will be subject to a tax penalty on the federal taxes if you stay uncovered from a qualifying health plans for more than 90 days.

Going uninsured – It is a matter of concern that most of the young Americans are uninsured these days. The idea of health insurance sounds foolish at the time you are young and healthy. But a single medical emergency can cost to more than you can ever think with all the medical expenses these days. the success of the health reform will be vague without the involvement of young and healthy individuals.

In 2014: it is going to impact your finances if you are uninsured in 2014. Most of the uninsured people will face a tax penalty of 1% of their income or $95 (whichever is greater) and the penalty will keep increasing in the coming years.

The Breast Is Best – Baby Stays Ahead When Breast Fed

Research has shown that one of the most critical times in the development for children is within their first year of life. During their first year is when the development process potentially results in a weight gain that can triple the weight of the child. (Stoppler, 2014) Where that weight comes from is one of the most significant contributing factors that determines how successfully healthy the child will be during the rest of their development. Therefore, it is up to the mothers to make that crucial decision on what will be used to supplement the nutritional needs of a child that determine the success of their well-being as they continue to develop. This decision can be difficult to make when looking at the variety of products offered for infant nutrition, especially for moms who are inexperienced at having children and do not know what products to use to promote success in different types of development. With this, instead of letting various companies who specialize in the manufacture and distribution of baby formula and nutrition decide what is good for the child, why not let something that specialized in the creation of the child decide what is best for the nutrition of that child during their critical time of development.

What is meant by this is that baby formula manufacturers produce products that go through a number of machines and tests that were created by people who know nothing about the needs of each particular child their product may serve. The one machine that actually knows what is best for each in individual child is that machine that created the child which is body of the child’s mother. This is why of all the alternatives available for supplementing child nutrition during the first year of development the best alternative in most cases is achieved through breast feeding from the mother. Baby formula products are something that have been around for a few decades and continue to be tested and changed with the progression of time. Breastfeeding is something that has existed and been used ever since the beginning of man and has been tested and proven for success with man’s continued existence. Although now in modern times it is used less because of the introduction of alternative methods that are perceived as more convenient with the use of formula, breastfeeding is still the one alternative that is preferred and supported by people who specialized in the care and development of children.

Most hospitals and facilities that accommodate child birthing have staff that actually encourage expecting and new moms to at least consider the use of breast feeding for providing the child’s nutritional needs during that first year. The support of breast feeding is also seen in recent changes made in policies at hospitals that once supported the use of formula. “As of 2011, nearly half of about 2,600 hospitals in a survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had stopped giving formula samples to breast-feeding mothers”. (Belluck, 2012) This is because more and more medical experts at hospitals are being awakened to the benefits offered through breastfeeding and do not want to use things, such as giving formula samples, that may potentially discourage new mothers from breastfeeding.

The potential benefits offered through breastfeeding are numerous. “The immunity factors in breast milk can help the baby to fight off infections. Breast milk contains vitamins, minerals, and enzymes which aid the baby’s digestion.” (Stoppler, 2014). The source of the majority of medical benefits offered with breastfeeding comes with the fact that mother’s body is designed specifically by mother nature to provide for the well being of the child it produces. In other words the mother’s breast milk is specifically tailored for the mother’s baby. This is what plays a significant role in the creation of the immunity to infection and disease benefit that is offered with breastfeeding. When the mother’s body responds to infections her body will create secretory IgA that is made to combat those infections and this is passed from the mother’s body to the baby with breast milk and offers protection for the baby also. (BabyCenter Medical Advisory Board, 2014) It has also been shown that the protection against disease that comes from breast feeding extends well beyond the baby’s initial stages of development.

A variety of medical research has shown that “breast-fed children are less likely to contract a number of diseases later in life, including juvenile diabetes, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and cancer before the age of 15″(National Resources Defense Council, 2014). The benefits of breastfeeding have also been found to be beneficial for the mother too. Research has shown that women who breastfeed have a reduced risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. There have also been studies conducted that prove that breastfeeding may reduce the risk of conditions such as type 2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular disease, including high blood pressure and high cholesterol. (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2014). Breastfeeding is the choice that requires no research, test, or something manufactured with chemicals and machines with no design intended to see to the welfare of a child. With this, it seems it should the choice should be obvious. It only seems sensible that mothers should take full advantage the gift that nature has provided for the long term benefit of the child and her.

Booklet Tips – Beyond Your World

Your tips booklet represents what you know. It mirrors the particular world you live in and the people in it, including your colleagues and consumers. It can be easy to get stuck in the world, forgetting there are many more people and opportunities yet to consider. In fact, more opportunities and people than you or anyone can reach in a single lifetime.

Let’s get practical. An often-voiced concern is whether anyone else has written on a particular topic an author is considering. What difference does that make? You will write based on your experience and your perspective. Even when some tips are similar to someone else’s, you will distribute yours in places no one else will, even if you happen to cross paths once in awhile.

Unless your area of expertise is so narrow and has so few people involved in it, your only real task is to continue exploring the vast range of possibilities. By the way, those narrow niches have yet to show up here, and if they have it’s been so quietly that no one noticed!

Back to the bigger picture. Consider the health and fitness world. That topic interests many people and may be your world. You see the same fitness trainers, conferences, equipment sales people, local gyms, healthy food resources, some of the same clients, and on and on within your geographic region however you define it. Even if that represents thousands and thousands of people, that still doesn’t scratch the surface of the population in your state/province or your country, much less the entire world. And that’s before looking at groups of people, by age, gender, culture, or other circumstance.

It can be easy to be blinded to what is beyond the wall around a particular world. After all, it’s a comfortable and familiar place. It’s comfortable as long as you connect well with those people and situations, where there is adequate flow of products and services in exchange for payment. Sometimes that flow slows to a trickle. You sell fewer tips booklets and sales are more difficult. It can play tricks with your self-esteem and drain your energy. You may be considering giving it up, thinking there are easier ways to make a living, throwing the proverbial baby out with the bath water. Sound familiar?

ACTION – Before you do that, there is at least one thing to explore. Take your information to one or more completely different audiences. See if the results are different. It might be that you need an infusion of energy into what you’ve been doing, who you’ve been talking to, and how you’ve been doing it. Have you been serving harried moms with their health and fitness challenges for the past bunch of years, and are no longer finding them a satisfying market? Are seniors less inspiring to you than you thought they would be? Decide who you would rather be around at least for the next while. Is it teens or singles or a certain culture or the other gender or, well, you define that for yourself. Test it until you see what feels right for you. It’s a big world out there and you get to choose.

Detox Diet Benefits

What to Expect when Detox Dieting

All detox diets are a little bit different. Some restrict food down to almost nothing while others allow for mostly veggies, beans, fruit, and rice. There are a few things that you should expect when beginning a detox diet, so that you can receive the full detox diets benefits.

Your body is significantly used to adjusting to toxins and poisons running through your body. One of the greatest detox diet benefits, naturally, is that you will rid your body of these toxins and poisons. There are side effects of receiving these detox diet benefits. If you are particularly used to that steaming cup of caffeinated beverage in the morning, you will experience caffeine withdrawal. While it may not seem like it while you are experiencing caffeine withdrawal, this is one of the detox diet benefits. Once your body has adjusted to the absence of caffeine, you should find that you have more energy.

Constipation is considered a leading cause of lethargy and fatigue. One of the detox diet benefits is the cleansing of the colon, which can cure even long term constipation. I had a room mate that was on narcotic pain relievers for over a year due to a severe injury. The narcotics kept her chronically constipated. The day she was finally through with her narcotic pain relievers, she went through a detox diet. She found that the detox diet benefits included relieving her body of the narcotic dependency as well as relieved her chronic constipation. She now regularly cleanses and detoxifies her colon when she is having difficulty going to the restroom, with obvious detox diet benefits as she returns from the restroom with a pleased grin on her face instead of the anguish she used to live in.

Even with the detox diet benefits, some people report feeling a bit weak about one week into the detox diet. Most detox diets do reduce food consumption, which can have an effect. The basic key is knowing how to elongate the effects of the foods you do eat. Those who really struggle with the lowered food consumption report that splitting the lunches into 2 meals works better for them than eating just the suggested breakfast and lunch. This still gives them the detox diet benefits but doesn’t introduce additional foods into the scenario. Most detox diet experts state that provided you are not adding additional foods to the diet, segregating the meals into smaller snacks is perfectly acceptable.

The excessive water consumption associated with the detox diet is going to encourage your system to flush, which means you will be visiting the rest room much more often. This is a positive detox diet benefit. The more water that flushes your system the more toxins that will exit your body when you excrete it, and excreting it often will enhance the productivity of the entire process.

One of the little known detox diet benefits is the regeneration of the liver that can occur while following a detox diet. Milk thistle is typically recommended as part of the supplementation of the detox diet. Milk thistle aids in the liver’s ability to regenerate. It’s not a cure for liver disease, however it can help in the prevention of a liver disease, along with other changes to your lifestyle.

What Not to Expect when Detox Dieting

Detox dieting is designed to alleviate the ailments associated with large quantities of toxins that are built up in the human body. Detox dieting is not a “cure” for every disease. While most people experience great relief from every day annoying symptoms, detox dieting does not eliminate diseases that are already in the system. For instance, you can not rid you body of cancer cells by detox dieting. The cancer cells, for starters are not an actual toxin. They may have been caused by toxins, but the cells themselves are not something that can be flushed away.

Most people drop several pounds when detox dieting. There are those who drop a significant amount of weight when detox dieting. This is normal, and while some of it can be contributed to the flushing of fat cells, water weight, and calorie reduction, there is some permanent weight loss happening provided you do not return to eating habits that are probable for weight gain. This means that if you were prone to eating potato chips and cookies prior to detox dieting and you return to eating potato chips and cookies after detox dieting, you will gain the weight back. This may seem obvious, but there are plenty of foods that people believe contain a low calorie and low fat content but in reality they contain quite the opposite. An avocado for example contains nearly three times the amount of fat and calories as a measured serving of enriched white rice. While detox dieting, learn to recognize the foods you are putting into your body and what they actually do once they enter your gullet.

Detox dieting is not a cure for serious emotional or mental conditions, such as clinical depression. While many people admit to feeling less “depressed” during and after detox dieting, there is a difference between situational depression and clinical depression. Clinical depression requires medication. Detox dieting can not take the place of medication that is necessary to function on a day to day basis. Situational depression may be alleviated through detox dieting simply because you are taking control of your body, your health, in essence, your situation. These two depressions are significantly different.

How is Detox Dieting Different from Other Diet Plans?

Diet plans are a dime a dozen. There are grapefruit diet plans and the Atkins diet plan and the green tea diet plan and the national chain diet plans. An individual can spend countless hours and thousands of dollars “trying on” various diet plans. Some will work while others will ultimately fail. Why? Because not all diet plans will work for everyone. Does detox dieting work for everyone? Yes. Why? Because losing weight is a by product of the goal. The goal is to clean the body of the various toxins and wastes which have accumulated over the years. This is a process of ridding the body of the ailing chemicals we introduce it to on a daily basis while eliminating the build up of residual toxins. Weight loss occurs as a result of numerous factors, but weight loss in not the primary goal of a detox diet plan.

Keep in mind that not all detox diet plans are the same. Some detox diet plans are put together by professionals who understand the body’s ability to cleanse itself of these harmful chemicals. While diet plans are typically put together by an entrepreneurial spirit, the detox diet plan was actually something that originated by a naturopathist, an individual who studies the various body types and how they process things on their own unique level. Since the detox diet plan was developed, there have been a remarkable number of “knock off” detox diet plans that have shown up on the market. These are all plans that suggest you stop eating and drink only diluted juice for several days (beyond twenty four hours this becomes unhealthy) and then limits food intake so dramatically that people find it impossible to stick to. If you’re going to try any diet plan at all, it would simply make sense to start at the beginning. The beginning of healthy weight loss is a healthy body.

The dramatic detox diet benefits is that people who tried to detoxify their bodies using the original detox diet plan found themselves losing weight as a welcome surprise. Detox dieting has grown in popularity due to its dual effect. Detox dieting cleanses the body of the toxins and as a result, weight loss occurs. There simply isn’t another diet plan that can match that no matter what they claim.

We live in a cluttered and chemically enriched society. Compare our lifestyles, our food products, and our basic need for heat and eat meals to the lifestyles and foods of people in remote and natural regions such as the Pacific Islands. People in natural regions are healthier overall. They eat natural foods that haven’t been laced with chemicals and they live natural lives that don’t revolve around the constant breathing of polluted air. Their bodies are not only healthier, but they are naturally thinner. They have fewer health complaints such as headaches and toothaches and stomach cramping.

The detox diet plan can help you jumpstart your body toward a healthier state of being. Naturally, effective detox dieting requires an effective detox diet plan. You really shouldn’t just linger out there in cyberspace hoping the right detox diet plan will pop up into your browser. There are very few detox diet plans that I would dare put my stamp of approval on. However, one in particular I have found has excellent reviews by some actual detox dieters. Finding an authentic detox diet plan that is effective, safe, and of course reliable shouldn’t be left to luck.

Moves By the FDA May Change Food Packaging In the Near Future

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) efforts as of late have been focused on safety in the packaging and processing of food products and on information for the consumer. While these two areas of interest are hardly rare for the agency, the introduction of a couple of new pieces of legislation could require some significant changes in the packaging, processing and labeling of food products in the near future.

In 2011, the FDA passed the Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA). As of the beginning of 2014, some areas of the FSMA are still open for interpretation. In general, the FDA is requiring makers and packagers of food to ensure that those who supply them with components of food are following certain guidelines. This is being done to ensure that a safe and sanitary process is being used not only by the maker or packager, but by all of those involved in the supply chain.

Some confusion, though, surrounds the definition of food, where the legal definition includes contact materials. This, in turn, could pull more than just food suppliers – vendors like packaging machinery manufacturers or cap, bottle and box suppliers – within the reach of the legislation. Though the FSMA appears to place the burden of setting up a safe and sanitary production process, this is not exactly spelled out in the Act. However, as long as food packagers and their vendors and suppliers work together to create product specific packaging lines, even a vague definition may not create too much turmoil.

But while food packagers and the industries that serve them await clarification on the FSMA, the FDA has turned their sites to the actual package that holds the food, or more specifically the nutrition label on that package. Suggestions for a nutrition label makeover have just moved from the FDA to the White House for approval. Unlike the FSMA, no changes have been made law as of yet, but just like the FSMA, food packagers are left wondering exactly what will be expected of them should the FDA adopt new guidelines.

Some expected changes include more focus or a more prominent display of the calorie count, a more clear picture of a serving size, moving away from gram measurements, additional or extended information on sugar and wheat and a possible move for the nutrition label to the front of the package. Given the trend toward healthy eating, it is surprising that this is the first makeover of the nutrition label since it was first introduced in the 1990s.

So why the change now? Generally speaking, our understanding of nutrition has changed quite a bit since the nutrition label was first introduced. As that understanding changes, the nutrition label must reflect any new information discovered to avoid becoming a useless box of numbers and percentages. As more and more Americans focus on getting and staying healthy, the nutrition label on food packages can be used as a tool if the correct, and helpful, information is displayed.

At the time of this writing, things are pretty much business as usual for food packagers and industry vendors. While changes to both packages and the packaging process can not be far off, the extent of those changes remains to be clearly defined.
